There are a few times in the year where an abundance of different colours takes over our landscapes, and Autumn is no exception to that.
Picture this, leaving the house in your new season outdoor attire (layers of course, it can still be warm), wandering amongst the trees that have started to turn hundreds of shades of orange, when you see a deer in the distance, almost camouflaged as its foraging for its food for the day. The kids are excited, and you’re pleased to be out of the house - win win!
There is nothing quite like a sunny autumn day, where the blue skies meet nature’ s hues of red right through to golden. A walk-through the woodlands or a gentle incline up one of the Peak District’s famous rolling hills are just as inviting as a warm summers day.
Lumsdale Falls
This short circular walk is great year-round with its rather spectacular waterfall and babbling brooks. But, visit in autumn and you can appreciate the endless array of warm colours and crunchy fallen leaves to rustle through. Walking to the falls you’ll pass by ancient ivy-covered mill ruins and need to climb quite a few steps, but we’d say it’s well worth it. There are 73 steps to climb – so why not make a game of it if you’re heading there with the young ones?

Chee Dale Stepping Stones
Tucked away in the countryside, you’ll find a pretty walk with a little element of adventure too. Bend yourselves around the rocks, go along the stepping stones, and stop to watch the brave hearted abseiling down the front of a rather tall arch bridge. This approximately 5km circular walk passes alongside the River Wye and the famous Monsal Trail.

Flower and Garland arrangements at Thornbridge
If you’re not one for the outdoors and prefer to admire the tones of autumn from indoors, why not visit Thornbridge estate for one of their flower arrangement workshops. Here you can design an autumn wreath or create a bespoke Halloween flower display to kit up your kitchen or mantlepiece with! If autumn’s passing by the time you’re reading this, fear not, there are also some Christmas wreath making workshops planned in November.
