DEVASTATING FIRE AT THE SMOKER, PLUMLEY

At around 5.30pm yesterday evening a devastating fire broke out at The Smoker pub in Plumley. The pub which is over 400 years old has was first alerted of the fire, when smoke and flames were spotted around the base of one of the chimney stacks, in the thatched roof at the front of the building. 

 There has been no injuries or harm caused to anybody at the pub and the team at The Smoker did an excellent job of evacuating the building and ensuring everyone’s safety.

The fire blazed well into the night with the fire crews still remaining on site this morning. William Robinson, Managing Director of Pubs at Robinsons said 

“I’d like to extend my thanks to the nine fire crews of Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue services who both attended the fire and worked throughout the night to extinguish the flames. Alongside the fire crews, The Salvation Army were on site, playing an incredible role in looking after the welfare of the fire crews and others onsite.

It will take quite some time to fully understand the level of damage that has been done, but we suspect it to be quite severe.”

William Robinson is back on site this morning to meet with Darren Crawford, Robinsons’ Pub Partner who operates The Smoker under the Broadoak Pub Company.

The Smoker has been owned by Robinsons family brewers since 1949 and is one of the only pubs in their estate with a thatched roof.

Robinsons and the Broadoak Pub Company, who also operate other Robinsons pubs, Red Lion, Parr Arms, Alvanley Arms and The Plough, will be working together with insurers to fully understand what will be required to restore the pub to its former glory.
