Introducing Hillgate Lady Gwendolen
Robinsons Brewery is delighted to share the wonderful news that Dolly has given birth to a beautiful foal, named Hillgate Lady Gwendolen. The filly was born on Thursday, 13th February, at around 10pm, with a smooth delivery. The team at Robinsons is thrilled to report that both mother and foal are doing incredibly well. Helen Preece, Head Horseperson at Robinsons Brewery, was present to witness the special moment and ensured everything went smoothly. The foal’s sire is Acle Valentino from Thorpe Hill Stud in Yorkshire, owned by P & M Bedford.
Hillgate Lady Gwendolen is a stunning filly, marked with four white socks and a blaze. She is already full of energy and eagerly exploring her surroundings. This birth is a part of Robinsons Shire Breeding Programme, which was launched in 2018. With nearly two centuries of history, Robinsons Brewery has long been dedicated to preserving and promoting the Shire horse breed. When the programme was established, the team secured a registered prefix, "Hillgate," with the Shire Horse Society, ensuring that all future foals born under the initiative will carry the Hillgate name.
Hillgate Lady Gwendolen, affectionately known as "Gwen," is named after Lady Gwendolen Robinson, the wife of the late Sir John Robinson. Sir John received his knighthood in 1958 at the first investiture undertaken by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in recognition of his work in politics and public service in Cheshire.
