We are delighted to announce the unveiling of The Airport pub’s newly revamped playground, designed to be more inclusive than it has ever been. Since its last refurbishment in 2018, the previous airplane and play area has been a massive hit with families and visitors. Over time, the growing popularity of the space highlighted the need for a major revamp. The main focus in the revamp has been making the space accessible to all children – particularly for those who may have a disability – so that everyone can enjoy and have fun.
At the heart of the new design is the installation of the airplane which design is the first in this country. Made from durable, galvanised steel and powder coated for strength and longevity, the new structure is built to last for up to 25 years or more with minimal maintenance. The inclusive design of the airplane includes sensory elements, accessible entry points, and engaging features that encourage imaginative play.
In addition to the play equipment, the playground is now home to a sign language plaque, offering an educational and welcoming facility for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families, and to anyone who would like to learn sign language!
Playsound Services Ltd played a pivotal role in sourcing and supplying the specialised inclusive equipment, which includes features such as an inclusive roundabout suitable for wheelchair users, a toddler-friendly slide, and various play panels that are solar-powered to help minimise environmental impact whilst educating. To further enhance accessibility, the playground’s flooring has been extended and newly tarmacked, making it easier for wheelchair users to navigate the area and engage with the play equipment.

The revamp was designed with inclusivity at its core, ensuring that children of all abilities can play together and enjoy the experience.
