Discover the outdoors somewhere new in Cumbria 

Cumbria is well known for its fells and its lakes, but there is so much to discover beyond the well-trodden tourist paths. We’ve put together a selection of medium length walks which we hope will inspire everyone with a new piece of the Cumbrian landscape. What’s better, each of these walks is within a stone’s throw of one of our great Pub Partner pubs. 

South Lakes – Western Cumbria 

Discover some of our great pubs sitting on the Cumbrian side of Morecambe Bay. Time your visit right to watch the tide come in and out. Northern Rail operate trains from Manchester Piccadilly to Barrow-in-Furness.  

Walney

Well-known for its pie and peas, the General Burgoyne can provide you post hike fuel.

Eastern Cumbria 

Conveniently located close to both the Pennines and the Lake District, Appleby sits on famous the Settle-Carlisle train line.

Central Lakes 

A stone’s throw from some of Cumbria’s most visited areas Outgate is a tiny hamlet close to Skelwith Bridge, Hawkshead and Ambleside. Buses are the best form of public transport across the central lakes.

Northern Lakes 

Located just south of Carlisle, Cumbria’s most northernly city, is the village of Armathwaite. The village also sits on the Settle-Carlisle train line, making it a handy stop over for those wishing to explore Cumbria’s villages.
