The Royal Oak Lindale is a destination food pub worth visiting in the southern Lake District. We're a family-friendly pub in Lindale near Grange-over-Sands, just off the A590 or at the top of the hill in Lindale. We're not far from the picturesque village of Cartmel and the edge of Lake Windermere, near Fell Foot. At the Royal Oak you can expect to find great British food and a great selection of drinks, all served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We have a large car park and an inviting beer garden with tables to sit outside.

Great walksThe village of Lindale is situated in the Lake District National Park and the Royal Oak has a long history of welcoming locals and travellers alike. The pub was first licensed in the mid-1800s and is situated at the top of Lindale Hill, hence being locally known as the ‘Top House’. The pub used to be where carriers’ horses could be changed on the way west to High Newton. The horses are now gone but the pub retains many of its historic features and has undergone a refurbishment that has been faithful to its heritage as a warm, welcoming, and cosy place to eat and drink.

We offer an excellent selection of home-cooked pub food using quality local ingredients. As well as our main menu, we create tasty special dishes for a spot of extra indulgence. Here you'll find the likes of Ox Cheek Suet Pudding and Steak and Fries, alongside a variety of delicious Asian small plates such as ramen, rice dishes, and shrimp dumplings. From the bar, we’ve got a great range of beers, wines, and spirits, including many of Robinsons’ most popular beers.
Have you spotted our beer garden? Sitting to the side of the pub you’ll find plenty of outdoor seating to catch some sunshine and enjoy the fresh air. Situated close to lots of popular walking and cycling routes, why not start and end your walk from our door, and re-nourish yourself before heading home.
If you’re looking for a spot to head to for a Sunday roast near Grange over Sands you’ve found the right place. At the Royal Oak Lindale we take our cooking seriously, and our traditional Sunday lunch is no exception. We recommend booking to avoid disappointment, but if you’re passing – stop by, you could be lucky!
If you’re on a journey to or from the Western Lakes and ready to call it a day, stay in Lindale. We’re happy to lend you a parking space in our car park. We’ve got limited spots available for a van to pull up, so it may be worth calling ahead. We’ll take care of your food and drink needs at the pub too. So all you need to worry about is which direction you’re heading the next morning. We ask that those using our van parking spend £30 in the pub, or pay £20 for the space.
